Doug John Miller’s love for architecture has followed him for years, and he decided to make it a centerpiece of his art. His illustrations explore highly detailed architectural concepts that look straight out of this world.
Miller has always been an artistic child with a vivid imagination, and his parents fully encouraged him to pursue his artistic passions. He found his true calling during his time at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London, where he now works as a part-time lecturer, running architecture and landscape design studios.
According to his Directory of Illustration portfolio, Miller enjoys “working on the details within larger pieces, drawing tiny details and stories to capture the imagination of the viewer and draw them into the artwork.”
He finds inspiration in many different places, but the comic books of Franco-Belgian sci-fi and the grit and atmosphere of vintage science fiction concept art had the biggest impact on his personal style.
In addition to attracting an impressive following to his Instagram page, Miller worked with a long list of high-profile publications, such as The Atlantic, Empire, and The New York Times. He also joined forces with Netflix and worked directly with filmmakers to help them bring their architectural visions to life.
