Dee Bakes is Making Pop Culture-Inspired Burnaway Cakes

We’ve seen many cake artists use pop culture as their main source of inspiration, but no one is doing it better than Dee Bakes. She found viral success on TikTok and Instagram with her signature burnaway cakes, most of which pay homage to our favorite recording artists.

Dee Bakes is the alter ego of the talented baker Adeline Tan from Singapore, who used to study at the NTU Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information before finding success with her baking business. She used the power of social media to promote it, gaining thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram.

Her creativity knows no bounds, and she’s no stranger to experimenting with different types of desserts, but burnaway cakes are definitely her specialty.

“The burnaway cake consists of edible wafer paper and edible icing sheets, do note that the burning process will char the wafer paper – almost like a toasted marshmallow. There will be a slight burnt sugar taste, but you can remove it before eating,” she explains in her order form.

Most of her burnaway cakes are inspired by her favorite musicians, and we’ve seen her make multiple cakes honoring Taylor Swift, but Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, and K-pop bands BTS and NCT 127 also made the cut.
